Reconnect with You!

Sacred listener, HarDashan Khalsa, is visiting CPY this month. Her up coming visit gets me thinking about meditation. Meditation helps me quiet my mind and listen to my body.

HarDashan Khalsa’s webpage talks about HSP, Highly Sensitive People. We are only 15-20% of the population, and although it often seems like a curse, this ultra intuitive nervous system is actually a blessing. HarDashan Khalsa suggests asking your self what your intuition is trying to say, instead of, “What’s wrong with me?”

The key to a fulfilled life is balance, but sometimes balancing seems more like stressful juggling. When were too busy listening to everything around us, and our thoughts are set off by stressful situations, we stop reading our bodies. We allow our stress levels to take charge of our decisions.

Meditation is an easy way to reconnect with your self and regain control. Silence your inner critic and ask yourself what nurtures you.

In the beginning meditation might seems awkward, so challenge your self. Start by sitting for 5 minutes in a completely silent, undisturbed place. You can sit cross-legged or lay down. Enter a relaxed, yet conscious state. Listen to your breathing. I like to pay attention to behind and below my belly button. This helps me focus on proper breathing, which should make your belly expand when inhaling.

Then try sitting for 10 or 20 minutes. Once I reach 15 minutes, I like to repeat positive affirmations in my head. I also go through a list of everything I am truly grateful for. Meditation has no time limit, the longer the better.

Try meditating this weekend. If you like it, come practice with HarDashan Khalsa, on March 29th or 31st. I’ll be there too!
